The Premier Amateur Horse of the Year Show Qualification looks to continue the support of Amateurs wanting to fulfil their ambition of competing at the prestigious finals.
The Premier Amateur qualification will be awarded at the TSR Premier Amateur Show taking place at Stoneleigh Park, Coventry on Saturday 6th and Sunday 7th September 2025, which will once again be dedicated to Amateur and Home Produced competitors only.
The Show will host the full range of ridden Horse of the Year Show qualifiers, with the elusive golden ticket on offer in each class, taking combinations to the Arena of Dreams at the NEC Birmingham in October.
39 Amateur combinations featured in the top 9 placings at Horse of the Year Show in 2023 – 26 of which came from the TSR Show – again will be hotly contested this October
The Premier Amateur Show is open to those combinations eligible under the TSR Amateur definition scheme as set out in the TSR Handbook HERE.
The Premier Amateur Ridden HOYS Qualification classes taking place at the TSR Premier Amateur Show is open to combinations eligible as defined by the amateur definition of TSR (section 4b).
Combinations entered in Horse of the Year Show qualifiers for the following sections/classes will be eligible to gain qualification:
4.TSR DEFINITIONS & CLASSIFICATIONS
4a. General TSR Definitions
Member A member is a person who has purchased a TSR Membership which entitles the person to receive TSR benefits for the term as stated on the website. TSR Membership does not confer holding any shares in The Showing Register or Grandstand Event Management Limited or voting rights.
Owner The legal owner of the horse/pony is the name of the person in the passport or in the case of a lease agreement the lessee shall be deemed the owner. The person named on the passport and the lessee remain responsible for all past and present connections.
Producer A person who keeps horses/ponies, including training, livery, schooling, rides or handles equines for the show ring for more than one exhibitor/owner paid or unpaid.
Exhibitor A person who has entered a TSR Event or Show

Parents/Parents Partners Husband/Wife and Partners Brothers and Sisters
Sons and Daughters
Step Parents
Step Grandparents
Brothers and Sisters
Legal Guardians
Father/Mother In Laws

4b. TSR Amateur Definitions
Amateur/Home Produced Applicable to TSR Talent Spotting, TSR Premier Amateur Show, Premier Amateur HOYS Ridden Award Qualification and Premier Amateur Points League the following are defined as amateur/home-produced:
You are eligible for TSR Amateur/Home Produced classes and the Premier Amateur HOYS Ridden Award Qualification unless you are a Professional.
You are a Professional in relation to Showing if you derive ANY income (main or part time) from working with horses/ponies in connection with Showing OR if you fall into one of the following Professional definitions as detailed below:
Professional Producer A person who keeps horses/ponies, including training, livery, schooling, rides or handles equines for the show ring for more than one exhibitor/owner paid or unpaid since 1st January 2021.
Professional Rider A person of any age who rides horses/ponies in the show ring for more than one owner paid or unpaid since 1st January of the preceding year.
For Clarification,
A person may ride their own animal and that of one other owner in the current year. All parties must be Amateurs.
Professional Handler A person of any age who leads horses/ponies in the show ring for more than one owner paid or unpaid, including Lead Reins since 1st January of the preceding year.
Professional Breeder
Professional Show Groom A person who receives remuneration or otherwise for employment full, part-time, or self-employed in connection with Showing in the current year or since 1st January of the preceding year.
Professional Trainer/Instructor A person who teaches and/or trains in any discipline paid or unpaid.
Instruction or training carried out with beginners at a riding school or associated facility, who train or compete at unaffiliated local level is accepted.
Instruction or training carried out with riders on their own horses or ponies who seek professional tuition but who do not compete is accepted.
Instruction or training carried out with riders who compete at or represent their pony club or riding club, or compete independently, at regional or national competitions are not classed as beginners and is not accepted.
A person who teaches and/or trains in the Showing discipline paid or unpaid.
Professional Owner A person who exhibits an animal in their name which is professionally produced for the show ring in the current year. Any other animals in their name/care or ownership or in the name of an immediate family member/spouse/partner even if they are kept at home will NOT be eligible for the Amateur Home Produced Classes in that year.
All children/juniors not to have attained their 18th birthday before 1st January in the current year will fall under their parents/guardian’s status.
Immediate family (as defined in 4a.)/Spouses or Partners of a Professional who work or are howsoever otherwise engaged or involved in any capacity with the Professional’s business whether or not for remuneration will be treated as being a Professional.

A horse or pony is NOT eligible for TSR Amateur/Home Produced classes and/or the Premier Amateur HOYS Qualification if it is:
TSR takes very seriously the spirit of these amateur/home-produced conditions any member found to be contravening them may be subject to exclusion from the society with immediate effect. Amateur Status for Horse of the Year Show 2025
Any member or competitor wishing to compete under the TSR amateur definition in relation to any qualification gained for Horse of the Year Show ridden classes, must ensure they maintain their amateur status from 1st January 2025, up to and including the last day of Horse of the Year Show Sunday 12th October 2025.
TSR reserve the right to refuse entry to Horse of the Year Show should it become aware through eligibility checks or concerns that this ruling has not been adhered to.
