TSR Spring Show
Sibling Rivalry in the Supreme and a Junior Rider beats the Adults in the Open M&M
TSR member Eve Reading from Corby beat off 21 riders to win the Novice M&M WHP and go M&M WHP Champ with her pony Parktown Copper King. Eve then had to take on not only the HOYS M&M Champion but her her sister Izzy in the Supreme. Izzy had won the WHP Championship on her pony Draconis Fire Bolt. Â Eve rode like a demon and was crowned Supreme of show. Eve’s Mum Kirsty said ” We are thrilled, we have only owned Copper King for two weeks and the pair have really clicked”
Rachel Cowan from Milton Keynes received an early birthday present taking the Reserve Supreme with her horse So Sweet who won a strong Ridden Horse Championship. Rachel has only owned the mare for 10 days and is returning to showing after a 10 year break. To add to the rosettes she was talent spotted for the TSR/HOYS Training Pathway and will have the chance to be selected to ride in the TSR Master Class at HOYS in October.
The In Hand classes were well supported with many handlers qualifying for the new TSR In Hand Regional Finals. Victoria Leggett from Northants with her Highland Edindurno Glendronach won the Pure Bred class & was 3rd in the In Hand Pony. Emma Wilde won the Veteran class with Johndoe. Seven year old Amelia Lockhart had her debut in M&M In Hand Small Breeds after the lorry broke down on the way and she missed her ridden class. Determined to have a go she entered and went on to be overall In Hand Champion with her pony Newoak Designer Edition. Diane Cruickshank won the coloured class with Zeus.
Large entries were forward for the HOYS M&M Ridden classes Glebedale Ding Dong ridden by Rebecca Penny stole the show with the Welsh C’s amazing paces to be Champion. Beating Fly the Last Flute and Sandra Burton winners of the New Forest & Connemara class, Sarah Parker riding Kilmannan Kilty winner of the Highland, Fell & Dale section, Pumphill Banter & Isobel Lines who won the Dartmoor, Exmoor & Shetland class, India Latter & Powys Sprite Section A winners, Katie Novell & Section D winner Tresiaur Quickstep.
Reserve Champion went to the Section B winner Pendock Silver Penny ridden by 9 year old Marnie Dunne from Staffordshire. Marnie and her pony Penny proved that Junior riders can beat the adults! It was the pairs first ever HOYS M&M Open class having only contested First Ridden classes in 2014. Marnie keeps her pony at home and had lightly shown it in 2014 qualifying it for HOYS in the M&M first ridden class and was 6th in the M&M First Ridden at the RIHS. Her mum Vicki said Marnie was riding a first ridden for someone else at the TSR Spring Show so we thought we might as well take Penny and enter the class to get them some experience, we are over the moon!”
The new Intro Rider classes for New, Nervous or Novice Riders proved popular. Northamptonshire riders Nikki Reader on Collier won the Ridden Cob and Marilyn Bane won the Ridden Hunter with The Grey Reble. Olivia Minihane from Birmingham won the Retrained Racehorse class on Ice Alice, it was great to see so many forward and enjoying their new careers.
Sarah Chapman show organiser said ” We have had some lovely feedback and everyone really enjoys the relaxed and friendly atmosphere at TSR Shows, we are looking forward to the TSR Summer Show on 18th & 19th July”

TSR / HOYS Showing Master Class – WOW!
Watch it on Horse & Country TV 28th & 31st Oct at 20.30 hours!
Clare, Jodie, Rebekah and India the Master Class Riders arrived on Thurs afternoon at the NEC with lots of jangling nerves, Sarah from TSR was there to meet them and get everyone settled in. Jodie, Clare & Rebekah got the chance to warm up in the International Arena. India was a star with her First Ridden firstly working in with 20 WHP’s and then with the Maxi cobs at 6am on Fri, Sarah & her horse Basil shadowed her to make sure she did not get crushed! After experiencing the late and early working in times nerves were soon settled and everyone was ready to meet the trainers Michael Eilberg (GB Dressage Rider) & Lucinda Sims. Lots of grooming and shining then ensued ready for the 3.30pm warm up. The riders enjoyed 45 mins with Michael and Cindy before the class then the BIG moment arrived! All four riders rode really well in the buzzing atmosphere. Michael and Cindy gave lots of tips on improving their performance plus took questions from the audience.
TSR was very proud of everyone and all their hard work, you were brilliant!
Jodie Aston said “I would just like to say a huge thank you to TSR. I stumbled across the Showing Register earlier this year. I became a member which was easy to do and the rest is history. I decided to have a go at the pathway to hoys and to my amazement I won my age category. It really did make my dreams come true … I met some lovely people and had tremendous support from the TSR team. I would highly recommend anyone with the same dream as me to go for it. It really was an amazing experience which will last a lifetime. Thank you Sarah Chapman for all your support and hours of hard work.”
Clare Crump said ” Thank you Sarah and the TSR! We have had the most fantastic experience ever at HOYS. After several stressful weeks, trying to keep us all fit and well and with Robbie deciding to jump out of the menage last Monday, my nerves were in shreds but it was definitely worth it! From the moment we arrived you really looked after us, helping with working in and final preparations. The master class was brilliant with Michael and Cindy giving simple yet effective instructions which helped massively with our performance. The whole experience has been surreal, watching aeroplanes taking off whilst hacking around the NEC car park! Working in with 50 others at 5am and gaining tips from the household cavalry, mounted games and all the professionals. I have learnt a lot and now have the confidence to push myself further to achieve more in the future. You have given me and my super grooms memories to cherish for a long time to come!”
India & her Mum Karyn said ” I just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your help, advice and guidance throughout our experience at HOYS. You were Brilliant with India and made her feel very special and really did put yourself out to make sure that it all ran smoothly for us and for that I really wanted to thank you. We had a wonderful time and will never forget it.”
Rebekah said ” I just wanted to say thank you for such a wonderful experience. It was thoroughly enjoyable and a great event to ride at with my boy. The opportunity you gave us four was incredible and truly one to remember. It has made me want to strive even more to qualify Wiggy for the coloured CHAPS class next year.”

TSR HOYS JUDGES PANEL NEWS
Judges listed on the TSR ‘H’ panel are eligible to judge HOYS qualifiers, including the new Part Bred classes. All judges on the ‘H’ panel will go forward to the new HOYS central judges list for all sections they are listed for. The centralised list will be published in January by Grandstand Media, it is an excellent move and will make it much easier for Show Secretaries to select judges.
TSR has taken the decision to close the ‘H’ (HOYS panel) as of 1st October to new entrants and upgrades for two years. It will reopen on 1st October 2015 when we hope there will be a unified assessment criteria across all societies for judges applying to judge HOYS qualifiers. It has been closed to avoid an excess of applications when the centralised list is published.
The ‘O’ panel is still open to new applicants, we welcome people wishing to take their first step onto the judging ladder.

New Rider for Master Class
Emma Peel has sadly had to pull out of the Master Class due to her back which is pinned and plated. All the extra riding and training has put too much pressure on it. Emma has gallantly pulled out in enough time to …enable another rider to take her place. So thank you Emma and we hope your back improves with some rest.
SO WHO WILL TAKE HER PLACE???????
We are very pleased to say that Laura Smith riding Poppy will now take Emma’s place. Laura is off to the BSHA Champs this weekend so is ready to take up the challenge!

TSR Pathway Riders excel at TSR Show 6th May, Onley Grounds
Fiona Wilson, Holly Crowe and Melanie Pritchard who have all been selected for the TSR Pathway showed that training and lots of hard work pays off, with all of them notching up wins. To further prove training is the key to success judges David Ingle & Mathew Ainsworth were kept very busy in the training classes and talent spotted several riders for the TSR Master Class Pathway Short list. Victoria Burton who rode in the 2012 Master Class won with her new youngster in the M&M Novice.
The show was a buzz of activity with good entries across all classes from the HOYS M&M qualifiers to the Tiny Tots and training classes, exhibitors arrived to be greeted by a goody bag and the sun shone so smiles all round!
It was fantastic to see so much potential in the Tiny Tots class, with many jockeys experiencing their first time off the lead, they all did a fanatstic job steering round with all the nervous parents cheering them on. The WHP ring saw some new faces with Carlie Webb receiving her first ever M&M WHP Champion accolade. In the horse classes Jonathan Fryer won the Hunter class and then went on to be ridden horse champion with Ducal Royal Emblem, only having owned the horse for a week this was a wonderful result.
Some riders had travelled many miles to contest the HOYS M&M Ridden classes the Simons sisters travelled from Pembrokeshire with their Powysvalley bred Welsh Sec D, placed 7th in the Welsh Sec D they went on to win the Novice M&M WHP exc 138cm class. Other riders came from Southampton, Lancashire and even Scotland! The M&M Ridden Champion went to Llanidan Linesman ridden by Katy Marriott who went on to take Supreme of Show. Reserve Supreme was Megan Thompson on Leacon High Cockalorum who was Mini Champion.
Show Organiser Sarah Chapman said “We were thrilled with the day and would like to thank everyone who came for making the show such a success!”

MEET MATILDA the TSR MASCOT for 2013!
Follow Matilda’s highs and lows she will be blogging every weekend on our Facebook page!
Hi, my name is Llansansior Matilda, but as we are going to be getting to know each other quite well you had better call me Matilda.
…I am a 7 year old Section D Welsh Cob, I was born in North Wales and was residing at the Trofarth Stud in 2011 when my current people spotted me. I now reside in a very nice establishment in Powys, Mid Wales with Gareth & Emma who I will refer to as my staff. They spend many hours tending to the needs of myself and friends, ensuring all residents are kept happy, they do not have a social life and so I see it as our job to keep them out of mischief!!
Upon moving to Mid Wales I encountered the showing ring for my first time, I had arrived!! The rings are flanked by my cheering staff, who have appeared to get themselves worked up into a frenzie?????? No idea why this happens, however I enter the ring, trot around trailing another of my staff to keep up with me and leave with a rossette – Days work over!!
Since Christmas 2012 I have been broken to ride and am now enjoying a full and varied social life. It’s so important to have a social life – I must encourage my staff to find time in their day!!
Just last week I attended a NCPA Training Clinic with Mr Richard Ramsey, it was very interesting as there were lots of other horses and many distractions to keep my female curiosity alert (I am very nosey!!). My rider (Sarah Chapman) is not as interested in local gossip and tittle tattle as I am and so insisted I concentrate. OK mission accomplished and all my efforts are now pooled into the task in hand…………. moments later I am travelling around the huge arena well balanced………………………. she loves me again!!!
I am assured all this fitness training is good for me and that I will benefit once the showing season gets underway.
As I write this we are under 5 inches of snow here in Wales and so I am forced into a duvet day!! zzzzzzzzzzzz
OK that’s all for now, the staff are arriving with afternoon tea. I will write again next week and let you all know how my staff are improving my fitness and keep you updated with my progress.
Brilliant Day with Jayne Webber & Shelley Perham
HUGE thanks to Jayne, Shelley and all the riders for making the day such a success – Quainton Stud with it’s relaxed and friendly atmosphere proved to be a great venue, even the sun shone as Jayne & Shelley had a very busy day. Each session was packed with useful tips and advice.
New to showing is Melanie Pritchards ex racehorse who went away much the wiser about showing! Susan Bates brought along her lovely coloured traditional who has excelled at dressage but will now have an added string to his bow as he aims for the ridden coloured classes! Millie Cox and her cute and cuddly Highland look to be a great partnership in the making! Young rider Imogen Megeney was keen to learn with her Mum and Grandma in support!
Showing sisters Hannah & Sophie Carter had a great afternoon with their Riding Horse & Hack, their blinging browbands were impressive. Michelle Cooper broke her wrist just days before so Tonya Ellis gallantly stood in and rode Centaurus and Sammy the traditional cob. Rebecca Lock had two forward her coloured stallion and a young star in the making who caught Jayne’s attention ridden by Jake Harris.
Shelley did an amazing job of imparting her knowledge on presentation and In Hand showing techniques, amazing riders with what could be achieved in just a few minutes. Jayne helped riders with their flatwork training and show technique, emphasising the importance of rhythm and impulsion without speed, riders really appreciated Jayne having a ‘sit on’ their horse!
Shelley emphasised the importance of cleanliness and keeping your horse/pony safe from bugs at shows with her range of Clean Round products www.shelleyperham.com. Thanks to Supreme Products riders could test out how to get ‘the look’! www.supremeproducts.co.uk
